Today the Supreme Court cancelled former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi’s plea which aimed to “reconstitute” the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) appointed disciplinary panel. This panel was assigned to probe the allegations of financial irregularities against Lalit Modi.
Justices J M Panchal and H L Gokhale said that the three-member committee was "validly" constituted by the BCCI. The Bench also said that it cannot be “reconstituted”. The Judges refused the reasons given by Modi regarding the “apprehensions of biasness”, as it was not based on solid grounds.
"Mere apprehension of biasness cannot be a ground to reconstitute the committee," the bench said.
"We cannot presume that member won’t give fair hearing to the petitioner (Modi)," the Judges also said "committee was validly constituted".
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) disciplinary committee set up has been challenged by Lalit Modi which aimed to probe allegations against him.
Modi attempted to reconstitute the three-member panel comprising Arun Jaitley, Chirayu Amin and Jyotiraditya Scindia.
