The heir to the family, Rahul Gandhi, in the uproar of the parliament, was trying to make himself heard. The family dynasty has dominated politics in the world’s biggest democracy for many decades.
Rahul was quite anxious when he read from a prepared statement which meant “anti-democratic”. This was a popular anti corruption campaign led by activist Anna Hazare. According the previous record, Anna’s hunger strike was aimed at getting Parliament to adopt a tough anti-graft bill.
In the noise of a meeting room, the voice of Rahul was going down and at that time the members were inclined to “storm out in fury”. The senior members of the party implored Rahul to “go on, go on”. This was an address that was being broadcasted live.
Rahul later called his speech a “game changer” in the fight against corruption. Many thought he was deceived.
Sometimes ago, the mother of Rahul and Congress party leader Sonia Gandhi had handed over the power to a group of four people. Mr Rahul belonged to that group.
However, long silence of Rahul had annoyed Indians and party seniors. Congress wanted him to deliver the speech of his life.
