Manmohan SinghThe Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced Rs 1,000 crore for the earthquake victims in Sikkim. He announced the assistance after having an aerial survey of the affected areas.

The PM also visited the STNM Hospital where he talked to the patients. More than 200 people were admitted in the hospital after the earthquake.

Manmohan surveyed the most affected areas of Lachung, Lachen, Chungthang and Dzongu in Sikkim. He had the survey on an Army helicopter from Bagdogra Airport in West Bengal. After the survey he said, "I have announced a sum of Rs 1,000 crore from the central government towards relief in the aftermath of the tragedy".

The PM affirmed to the local people that the Center would ensure to provide possible assistance to the earthquake affected people. He also said that the administration would try their best to make no delay in their working to reconstruct the buildings.
