Customers flock markets in Delhi, Diwali Preparations in full swing

With less than three days left for Diwali, People in the Indian Capital are flocking into markets and spending their heard earned cash wholeheartedly. On Sunday markets, shopping malls and stores were jam packed.

From buying glittery clothes, to getting bangles and putting on Henna, the markets and bazaars are giving a tradional festive look. People took complete advantage of Sunday being a holiday and started pouring in the markets at 11.30am and shoppers trickled steadily through the day.

The markets in South Delhi and pedestrian way were packed to the hilt. People were trying their utmost to find parking space for their vehicles.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation officials said as per figures collected till 8 pm, nearly 10.5 lakh people travelled via Metro.

Prakash Lakhnavi, owner of Paradise Sarees in Sarojini Nagar market said “Sales have picked up and the numbers of customers have increased manifold,” 

Parveen Chaudhary of Ramakrishna Jewellers at central market said “There is an almost 225% increase in sales this year compared to last year,”

Neeraja, who came along with her two children to Lajpat Nagar market summed up the mood: “Who cares about inflation? The crowds here have belied the fact. Indeed, people are shopping as if things are available for free.”
