Sindh Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Monday accepted the resignation of Sharjeel Inam Memon and gave additional charge of the Information Ministry to Power Minister Shazia Marri.
The former information minister left for Dubai, triggering rumours that he was expected to join former home minister Sindh Dr Zulfiqar Mirza in London.
Memon was summoned by the Sindh chief minister when he was seen accompanied with Mirza in England, which outraged coalition party, MQM. The former information minister came back and tendered his resignation before President and PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
Talking to the media at Karachi airport, Memon said that the former senior minister was in England to help the law enforcing agencies there to arrest alleged killers of MQM Convener Dr Imran Farooq.
Therefore, the MQM should be happy over Mirza’s visit to London as he was helping Scotland Yard to nab the killers of their party leader. Memon said he was not a ‘deserter’ and was not leaving the country under any agreement. He said he would not bow before the pressure of the MQM. He declared that he was responsible before the PPP.
He claimed that he was going to Dubai for personal business as he had business there since year 2000. The former minister appreciated the role of Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and incumbent Home Minister Manzoor Wassan for bringing peace to Karachi.
Earlier, Memon’s leave application was approved by the Sindh Assembly.
