Pakistan tests ballistic nuclear missile

According to military sources, Pakistan successfully fire tested a nuclear capable, surface to surface, short range ballistic missile on Monday. The missile has the capability of traveling 180 kms above the surface.

A statement released by Inter-Service Public Relations said, “Hatf-2 carries nuclear as well as conventional warheads with high accuracy. The test provides an operational level capability to Pakistan’s strategic forces, additional to the strategic and technical level capability with Pakistan already posses”.

The witnesses of the experimental missile include the director general of Strategic Planning Division and the commander of the Strategic Force, Lt. Gen. Khalid Kidwani (Rtd) and Lt. Gen. Tariq Naseem Gillani, respectively.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari congratulated the team and the army on their dedicated efforts to keep the security of the country as their priority. They also specifically congratulated the engineers involved in the manufacturing and testing of the missile.

The location of testing the missile was no given out due to security purposes. India had also shortly test a similar military device. India and Pakistan keep on testing missiles after each other to threaten each other for any military action. Pakistan and India both countries have nuclear powers. India become a nuclear power just a couple of days before Pakistan launched their successful nuclear program and became the first Muslim country to have nuclear power in 1998.
