Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) rules majority in the province of Punjab breaking the long tradition of overthrowing the current government in Punjab in every elections. The father-son duo is here to stay for another term shaking the political history.

Upon majority being declared having confidence in SAD, the party announced on Thursday that Prakash Singh Badal will continue to serve as the Chief Minister of Punjab. Prakash Badal will be serving the state for the fifth and the second consecutive time, as announced by his son.

The president of SAD and son of Prakash Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal spoke to the media outside his official residence and said, “I had declared it well in advance that Badal will be the Chief Minister”. He further informed that the oath taking ceremony will take place on 14th of March, 2012 and the decision of cabinet members will be taken by the CM.

He went on to appreciate the governance of his father and said, “Under the leadership of [Parkash Singh] Badal, the State performed well and Akalis got victory”.

Over the question of selecting the deputy CM for the state, Sukhbir responded, “Both the SAD and the BJP will decide upon the post of Deputy Chief Minister. The SAD-BJP alliance government will strive to fulfill the dreams of the people of the State. It is rule of people that has been retained in Punjab by the electorate.”
