The President of India Pratibha Patil kicked off the budget sessions for the next year in the parliament on Monday with an address where she marked that the Indian economy is expected to grow at a percentage of 8-9 other than the anticipated 7%.

She also agreed that she understands that the current fiscal year was not as progressive as expected further stressing that it was so due to the overall economic uncertainty all over the globe which also affected their domestic markets. However, with the outcome of events the next year seems bright.

She said, “There is increased political uncertainty and turbulence in the international system and the environment in which we operate has become more challenging over the last one year. Our economy grew at a handsome rate of 8.4 per cent in 2010-11, but it has slowed down to about 7 per cent this year. This remains a healthy growth given current global trends. My government is confident that it will soon steer the country back to the high growth trajectory of eight to nine percent.”

The president further added that steps are also taking shape which will reduce corruption and improve efficiency of the operations of the government.

Upon revealing the future plans of India, the President was interrupted countless times by the opposition members taking the session to an uncomfortable environment.
