Mukul Roy took the oath as the new railway minister of India on Tuesday in New Delhi and become the member of the cabinet replacing his former party member Dinesh Tirvedi.
Trivedi was forced to resign by his party over proposing a hike in the prices of railway. After increased pressure from the Tinamool Congress (TC), the PM accepted Trivedi’s resignation and appointed another leader of TC, Mukul Roy. The newly appointed minister has already given orders to revoke the price hike and was welcomed to the team by several other cabinet members.
The oath taking ceremony took place at the Rashtrapati Bhawan with President Pratibha Patel present at the occasion. Other political celebrities who attended the ceremony include Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Tinamool Congress party leaders, and UPA chairperson.
Mukul Roy was already serving the State of Shipping as the Union Minister before being sworn in as the Railway minister. He has served as a railway minister for India previously, before Dinesh Trivedi was appointed. Mukul seemed rather pleased to get his old seat back and immediately ordered the rollback of price hikes for the lowest class of the society at least, whereas rollback for other classes is under consideration and will be announced later only after discussions.
