The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made three arrests on Tuesday in regards to the Adarsh Housing Scheme scam, after being strictly ordered to do so by the High Court of India.

According to the information released by the CBI, they have finally arrested the ex-deputy secretary of the department of State Urban Development PV Deshmukh, Rtd. Brig. MM Wanchoo, and the former officers of the Defence Estate RC Thakur. They also informed that about three more arrests will be made soon in regards to the same case.

One of the officers spoke to the media and said, “Another accused [Kanhaiyalal] Gidwani is already in judicial custody in another matter, hence a call on him will be taken as per rules”.

The housing scam involves building a 31 story building on a plot in South Mumbai. The plots in the scheme were originally allotted to families of the soldiers of Kargill (1999) but was later discovered that several politicians and influential persons had acquired the corner plots and were misusing them.

The scam came out in the open almost a year ago but CBI had not arrested or taken anyone in custody as several renowned politicians and other officials were named. However, after the pressure from the High Court in the hearing of 12th March, CBI started pursuing the case and finally made some significant arrests.
