The veteran broadcast journalist Angelo Castro Jr. expired on Thursday at the age of 67. Cause of death has been declared as lung cancer.

He was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the hospital authorities at the St. Luke’s Medical Center. He was fighting the war against lung cancer for quite a number of years but lost the fight on Thursday. He was the host of the renowned television show “The World Tonight” on CBN News channel.

The official news of his death was announced on the Twitter account of the news channel. Condolences from various political leaders and media members are coming in, as friends and family gather at his residence to show support and lend a helping and to his wife, June, and son Diego.

Edwin Lacierda, the presidential spokesperson released an official statement which said, “We mourn the passing of Angelo Castro Jr. For many years he was a calm and reassuring presence in the late evening news. His passing marks the closing of an era of gentlemanly broadcasting, where erudition and dignity were the hallmarks of news and current affairs.”

One of his former colleagues Gilbert Remulla also posted on his twitter saying, “To my senior brod, former boss and broadcast mentor Angelo Castro Jr – When I see you in the sun, I shall tell you much.”
