The President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari paid a visit at the base camp of the Siachan glacier at the location of Gyari on Wednesday.

Alongside the President, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani had also come to the unfortunate location where about 138 Pakistani soldiers lay buried under thick layers of ice for more than a week now. President’s visit to Gayari was only after the chairperson of the opposition political party PML-N Nawaz Shairf visited the area to show gratitude and share the pain and sorrow of the military members in that area the day before. President Asif Ali Zardari is stated to have visited the location to oversee the search and rescue operations being carried out with the help of several international specialists who flew in from various parts of the world. The president was also accompanied by the interior minister Rehman Malik.

After his visit in Gayari, he was briefed in detail about the operation being carried out and the activities taking place under the commander Ikram-ul-Haq, who is the head of the Force Command Northern Areas (FCNA). He thanked the team and the efforts made by the military to rescue their brothers from deep under the ice. He also commented that the whole nation is indebted to the lives of these soldiers buried here.
