After the visit of the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari to Gayari on Wednesday alongside the Chief of Army Staff Ashfaq Ahmed Kayani, the Army Chief calls on India to sit and talk over the Siachan dispute.
The proposal of solving the Siachan dispute has surfaced after the President was briefed about the operations and the activities of the 138 civilians and military personnel who are now buried under the ice for more than a week. Alongside president Zardari, the interior minister Rehman Malik was also present. The two were received by the governor and the chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan. Zardari not only viewed the area where the avalanche crashed and took innocent lives but also looked over the activities of the rescue and search operations team working in the region under the supervision of the commander of Force Command Northern Areas.
During their meeting after the visit, President shared his thoughts with the chief of army staff over the military base camp on Siachan glacier. Kayani endorsed the thoughts of the President and said that they had also put this demand forward to conduct talks between the two countries over the dispute other than deploying troops after troops to the glacier. He encouraged and openly demanded that the two countries should sit and talk over the issue to withdraw their forces from the region.
