A civil secretariat bus was completely destroyed as it was exploded by a remote controlled bomb on Friday in the city’s Gulbela area on Charsadda road.

The provincial information minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain reported, “The bomb was planted under the bus”. He added, “We still can’t say how many government employees and private passengers were killed, but there were heavy human losses.”

While talking to media, the toll was confirmed by Medical Superintendent Lady Reading Hospital Rahim Jan Afridi.

At least 21 people were killed that included six women and a young girl and 42 others were wounded including three children. The rescue teams immediately arrived and started their operations. The injured were shifted to the nearby Lady Reading Hospital (LRH).

This blast took place after a remote controlled bomb attack outside a seminary (madrassa) in Quetta that put at least 16 people to death.

The outburst took place within the range of Dawoodzai Police Station. SP Rural area has confirmed that the 8-kilogram explosives were used in the blast. While rescue efforts were still in progress, the police cordoned off the area.

In the past five years, militant bombers had attacked and killed more than 5,000 people. No group claimed accountability for the outburst though the Pakistani Taliban had been blamed for carrying out hundreds of comparable bombing across the country.

Peshawar had been targeted by several militant attacks as it is located on the edge of Pakistan’s tribal area. Violence rate has gone down in the past year but the attacks are still occurring frequently.
