The recent Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather bulletin reported that a Tropical storm Guchol has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility from the Caroline Island in the western Pacific Ocean.

The National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council said local officials have prepared themselves to be affected by the tropical storm Butchoy for any eventuality owing to the inclement weather. NDRMMC executive director Benito Ramos said local government units have already organized and prepared themselves for the assaulting storm.

He said they have coordinated with their local disaster management councils, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and Department of Public Works and Highways.

“The DSWD is already readying their relief goods and evacuation centers, while the DPWH are prepositioning heavy equipment to landslide-prone areas like in Maharlika Highway, Dalton Pass going to Cagayan Valley and Kennon Road going to Baguio City which is prone to rock slide,” Ramos said.

He also said that heavy rainfall and floods were expected in Davao City, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Saranggani and Surigao del Sur. He added that there would be updates on the release of water from Magat dam, which is nearing critical level.

Today the Butchoy was estimated 880 km East of Guiuan, Easter Samar at 10:00 a.m.

The Butchoy has been predicted to be at 560 km East of Virac, Catanduanes with the maximum sustained winds of 850 km per hour tomorrow morning.

According to PAGASA’s official website, next weather bulletin would be issued at 11:00 p.m. today.
