Parliamentarians urge the authorities to arrest former minister and independent legislator Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya who is allegedly involved in the murder-conspiracy of deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Zia-ul-Haq. Nevertheless, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav does not seem too keen to make the arrest.
“The case is with the CBI now and I am sure the guilty would be brought to justice,” Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs minister Mohd Azam Khan said.
CM Yadav claims the case has been referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and one should wait for the law to take its course. He also visited the victim’s family in Bilapur village of Pratapgarh and paid his condolences. The chief minister said the incident was tragic and government would take all the possible measures to catch the main culprits.
“There is no question that law and order was a priority for the state government and everything would be done to ensure that the law of the land prevailed,” Akhilesh Yadav said.
“Action would be taken against those policemen who fled away from the scene and also those who showed weakness. Action would be taken against those found guilty.”
“The demand for a CBI inquiry was accepted without any delay. We have also given a compensation of Rs 20 lakhs each to the families of the two victims. We have assured the families that the government is with them. The government will fully cooperate with the investigation.”
