Governor rule has been lifted in Balochistan, automatically restoring provincial government on Thursday. After the federal government hesitated in taking the extension issue to parliament, the governor rule in the province was automatically lifted after 60 days from its imposition.

Reportedly, the federal government had already decided to restore provincial government in Balochistan, the debate was whether or not to replace the suspended Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani. It took some time but the Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah eventually convinced the majority on restoration of the deposed CM. Balochistan Governor Nawaz Zulfiqar Magsi also seem to agree that bringing of a new Leader of House in Balochistan Assembly at this point in time might not be reasonable.

The Balochistan MPAs of Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl have announced to sit on opposition benches and their Parliamentary Leader Abdul Wasay has been notified as Leader of Opposition. Balochistan National Party-Awami MPAs have also decided to occupy the opposition benches. Both JUI-F’s Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and BNP-A’s Mir Israrullah Zahri met at Parliament House Wednesday evening and discussed the way forward.

On the other hand, most of the PPP members have lost their trust in Raisani. PPP Balochistan chapter leaders, including Mir Sadiq Umrani, still suspect that Raisani could create problems for their party. The suspicions have dramatically risen after Nawab Lashkari Raisani announced his support for PML-N.
