After having spent five years of bitter-sweet relationship with the ruling government, Nabeel Gabol decided to bid farewell to his party and shake hands with Altaf Hussain. Nabeel Gabol has served Pakistan People’s Party for 25 plus years but could not work it out with new party leadership.

Making the announcement at Nine-Zero, HQ of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), on Sunday, Gabol said he was forced to quit PPP-P over differences with its policies. Gabol candidly said that the current PPP-P is not Benazir Bhutto’s party.

“I am quitting and joining the MQM now. Time and again I took stand, warned the party that Lyari is like a time-bomb that would affect the entire Karachi in the future. No one listened or considered my views, nor did they resolve the issues facing Lyari,” he said.

Gabol said he was always welcomed by MQM Coordination Committee Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar and others. He claimed to have been invited by several parties but he chose MQM for its fair attitude.

“Now that I have joined the MQM, my job is to promote brotherhood between the Urdu and Sindhi speaking people. I assure Altaf Hussain that we will jointly work for the prosperity of Sindh and Pakistan,” he added.

Reportedly, Gabol had approached the PML-N for political shelter but was brutally rejected. He then reached out MQM and became the first politician to join the MQM before the general elections.

“If the party awards ticket to a passerby to contest elections from Lyari, he would also win. Lyari is amongst some strongholds of PPP and it is a history of party that it always wins elections from this constituency,” Sindh PPP Information Secretary Latif Mughal.

“President Asif Zardari has already informed Gabol that party would not award him ticket for coming elections almost one and half year ago. PPP MNA from Lyari then approached the PML-N, but Nawaz Sharif has turned down his request of joining his party. Gabol was in contact with MQM after PML-N rejected him and he had several meetings with MQM MNA Waseem Akhtar and later he joined MQM,” he added.
