Following a settlement reached between Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim and ex- Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) head Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan; the later would submit an apology in open court on Tuesday.

Khalid had filed a defamation suit against the MACC and two others. After Justice Lau Bee Lan took care of the matter on Monday, Khalid told the media that MACC will officially apologize to Khalid on Tuesday.

Earlier in 2009, Khalid filed a petition against Ahmad Said, the MACC and the Government for accusing him to have abused his powers as Mentri Besar. He referred to Ahmad’s claims that the MACC could prove that Khalid abused his powers over the maintenance of his personal car and over the purchase of 46 cows for a Hari Raya Aidiladha event for the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency.

Khalid maintained that Ahmad’s statement implied that he was a liar, unprincipled, corrupt, unethical and an unfit politician with a criminal histoty. He also requested the court to immediately restrict the defendants from further making similar defamatory remarks in public.

Addressing the media outside the courtroom today, Khalid said an apology would suffice as the defendant in the suit is a government body and not an individual.

“It is a question of the administrative process. I would be seeking damages in the case of an individual seeking to undermine a person. I believe civil servants, especially enforcement bodies, the MACC and the police should carry out their duties professionally and not let themselves be influenced by groups or individuals with their own agenda,” he said.
