Sanjay Dutt’s daughter, Trashala Dutt has thanked all her friends and fans for extending their support to her family during tough times. The Supreme Court of India has sentenced Sanjay five years of jail time for possessing illegal weapons which were later involved in the 1993 Mumbai Blasts.

“Thank you for all your prayers and concerns. Extremely tough time for me and my family…were all in shock be we have to be strong,” tweeted Trishala.

Trishala is considered to be the closest to her father among all three children. Sanjay also has twins; Iqra and Shahraan, from his third wife Maanyata Dutt. Upon hearing about Sanjay’s imprisonment, Trishala’s friends flooded her twitter with prayers and supportive messages.

“In the case of Sanjay Dutt, the Supreme Court has not found him guilty for the 1993 bomb blasts, but only found him guilty of having in his possession a prohibited weapon without licence,” Justice Katju said.

“His parents Sunil Dutt and Nargis worked for the good of society and the nation. Sunil Dutt and Nargis often went to border areas to give moral support to our brave jawans and did other social work for the society,” he added.

Jaya Bachchan, Member of Parliament and veteran actor, plans on requesting the Maharashtra governor, K Sankarnarayanan, to pardon Sanjay as he is a changed man now.

“I agree with everyone that he has suffered a lot. I believe that he should not be given such a big punishment. He is a changed man now. I’m going to personally appeal governor and ask him to pardon him,” said Mrs Bachchan.

The Mumbai blasts trial ended with 12 people receiving the death penalty and 20 others given life sentences. Sanjay was fortunate to have one of the briefest sentences. Nevertheless, the decision took Sanjay by surprise. He confined himself in his flat and now plans to file a review petition.

“My family is very emotional right now and I have to be strong for them. I am shattered and in emotional distress. I am sorry I can’t come down and meet you all. God is great and he will guide me through this,” he said in a statement.
