Major political parties are having a tough time deciding on the matter of issuing party tickets while less than 48 hours remain in the expiry date of submitting nomination papers. Pakistan Muslim League-N has taken a leap and advised its candidates to stop waiting for party tickets and submit their nomination papers.

The Parliamentary Board of PML-N has almost decided their candidates for Multan and Bahwalpur constituencies while the candidates for the constituency in Dera Ghazi Khan are still under discussion. Sources report that important political figures are soon to join PML-N which would give more clarity in deciding matters related to party tickets.

PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif would contest elections from NA-120, Hamza Shahbaz NA-119 while Shabaz Sharif from NA-123. Nawaz reportedly paid Rs 2.7 million tax on his agriculture income during the past three years on Friday to become eligible for contesting 2013 general elections. He had earned Rs 18.64 million agriculture income but had paid only Rs 85,250 as a land based tax during the past three years. Nawaz had to pay the amount only after addition of a new condition in the nomination form to pay tax on agriculture income.

Tax experts said the new nomination form has paved the way for payment of agriculture tax by the large land holders on their income instead of land based nominal tax and promote the tax culture in Pakistan. The agriculture sector contributes nearly 22 percent to the GDP but its contribution to the tax net is insignificant.
