The United States issued a statement on Friday that she is looking forward to engaging with the new democratic government of Pakistan coming into power after free and fair elections on May 11.

“The United States looks forward to witnessing timely, transparent, free and fair elections on May 11th. These elections will mark an important democratic transition, historic development of which the people of Pakistan can be very proud”, said State Department’s acting deputy spokesperson Patrick Ventrell in a press briefing.

“We do not support any particular political party or individual candidate, and we look forward to engaging with the next democratically elected government”, he added.

Mr Ventrell also took the opportunity to condemn all the recent violent activities aimed at hampering the election campaigns of certain political parties. He was referring to the law and order situation in Karachi where politicians and their supporters are been brutally attacked during the electoral campaign.

“We likewise condemn recent statements by militant groups indicating their intent to disrupt Pakistan’s democratic process. We support the right of the Pakistani people to participate in the election of their representatives and their ability to fulfill their aspirations for a peaceful, prosperous and democratic nation,” he added.

May 11 general elections of Pakistan are considered as a landmark in the history of this country as experts predict an extraordinary voter turnout this time. The election process will closely be observed by several foreign delegated.
