Bollywood megastar Sanjay Dutt will surrender before a TADA court today, on Thursday. Dutt has been convicted of possessing of illegal weapons that were used in 1993 Mumbai blasts. The apex court upheld the decision and ordered Dutt to complete his five-year jail time.
Family members and famous Bollywood stars have been visiting Dutt at his Bandra home since Wednesday evening. He has received hundreds of calls from well-wishers from around the world. Salman Khan, Fareed Khan and director David Dhawan came to see Dutt in person. His fans have started gathering outside his residence to bid him farewell. The celebrity reportedly started his day with solemn prayers and a ‘havan’ conducted by a priest.
Dutt has already served 18 months in jail 20 years ago. He has to spend the remaining 42 months to complete his reduced court sentence of six years to five years. The Supreme Court granted the actor an extended time period to finish his projects before surrendering. As the date for his surrender drew closer, Dutt appealed that he be given six months more to complete his seven films in the pipeline since it affected the livelihood of many people. The court gave him a month instead to complete the projects and that extension expires today at 4 pm.
