Articulating his concerns over the transparency of May 11 elections, President Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Balochistan called it quits by handing in his resignation to party Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Mir Saqid Umrani turned against his party and said the result of recent polls was preplanned.
“Elections in Balochistan were not free and fair and I cannot continue the party matters ahead and therefore, resign from the party,” said Umrani.
Umrani believes that his defeat in PB-28 Naseerabad election was pre-planned and he could not have done anything to facilitate his voters to cast their ballot. He said the women of Balochistan were terrorized and could not leave their houses on May 11.
“Despite repeated requests, the administration was unable to rein in terrorist elements targeting voters and candidates in my constituency,” he added.
According to Umrani, his party made a huge mistake by allowing other parties to run major ministries in the province after winning 2008 elections. He alleged that Balochistan would have been more peaceful had it been fully under the governance of PPP-P.
“In 2008, when the PPP came into power, noting was done to resolve the Balochistan issue, and the workers who had rendered many sacrifices were neglected by the party leadership… Had there been PPP government, things would have been different here,” he argued.
