Reviving the agony and anger from the December gang-rape case in India, another 22-year-old photojournalist got raped and her male colleague beaten up in Mumbai on Thursday night. The duo was out on the streets to capture some artistic scenes when a group of five men ambushed them.

The tragic incident took place at an old factory site in Mumbai. Apparently, the criminals were frequent goers of the mill and were also involved in some petty crimes. Mumbai police claims to have arrested two of the five assaulters by late Friday night.

Vijay Jadhav and Chand Abdul Sattar are the most recent arrests made in the case. Jadhav was reportedly arrested from a video store in Madanpura and Sattar from a Dhobi Ghat near the crime scene. The two alleged assaulters will be presented before the Bhoiwada magistrate court on Saturday. Other suspects include Qasim Bengali, Saleem and Ashfaq.

“We have arrested one of the suspects who has named the others involved in the incident. The suspect has also confessed to the crime… The police prepared sketches based on the statement of the victim and the witness and made an arrest,” claimed Mumbai police commissioner Satyapal Singh.

Singh added that twenty police teams are actively searching for the three other criminals who are allegedly aged between 18 and 20. All five of the criminals are school dropouts, jobless and visited the mill often. The state government has taken note of the incident and has offered services of Ujjwal Nikam as the lawyer to fight the victim’s case.
