Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif reiterated his commitment towards restoring the friendly relations with Pakistan’s arch rival in order to enhance peace and harmony in the region. The statement came in the wake of increasing tension at Pak-India border where military of both countries is exchanging episodic gunfire and killing soldiers.

The premier also insisted that his government is making dire efforts to hold peace talks with the Taliban. Sharif believes that if his party manages to bring Taliban on the table, they can devise a mutually discussed plan to promote peace in the region. He is hopeful of bringing the decades old bloodshed to an end. He made reference to the new national security policy which shall help gear-up the process.

According to The Telegraph, Sharif admitted that Islamabad might have been using India–bashing slogans for many years, but the new government is focused on strengthening ties with its neighbors. Sharif added that the economic stability of both countries highly depends on their bilateral trade and relations. Hence, it is in the larger interest of both the countries to condone the bitter past and move towards a brighter tomorrow.

Sharif added that he took part in the elections with the slogan of strengthening Pak-India relations and enhancing the bilateral trade between the two countries. He says his victory is a clear message that Pakistan is in the favor of having friendly relations with India.

  1. Nawaz Sharif is on the right track of not having too many distractions and focus only on economic development. He knows how opening of trade through Wagah is benefitting Punjab. Our short-sighted PPP leaders dcomment_ID not realize the opening of Khokhrapar border. Better relations with India mean more resources for development. I wish the armies on both scomment_IDes dcomment_ID not think of themselves only but also about the poor masses. They should cooperate with their political leaders and not undermine them.
