The minority leader in Baluchistan and Lawmaker Handery Masieh was shot dead by his own guard who had been serving the member of the Provincial Assembly for the last fifteen years. “The same guard was serving Masieh for the past 15 years,” informed Rehmat Baloch, the provincial health minister and central leader of National Party.

According to AFP, Abddul Razzaq Cheema, the city’s police chief had informed that “The bodyguard had some personal dispute with Masieh’s nephew and both had a brawl outside the residence of the lawmaker. The bodyguard opened fire on the nephew as Masih came out of his home to stop him. He was hit in the neck and died on the way to hospital.” Cheema further added that the bodyguard was “loyal” and bore Masieh no personal enmity. The security guard has been identified as Ghulam Mohiuddin and has been arrested by the police.  According to Dawn News, another police official in Quetta confirmed the killing and said that “Masih’s nephew was also wounded in the attack.”

According to another local media house, political leaders including Altaf Hussain, Sirajul Haq, Khursheed Shah and Shahbaz Sharif strongly condemned Balochistan’s Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Handery Masieh’s assassination. The national assembly session observed silence for two minutes whereas Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed the Balochistan government to take strict action against the ones responsible. The Christian minority was left grieving after they heard the news of their leader being dead.
