As heat waves cover India, Monsoon makes its arrival to give people relief. Heavy rains in many parts of Saurashtra and south Gujarat indicate that monsoons have made their highly awaited yearly visit to India.

“Off shore trough on sea level chart extending from Gujarat coast to Kerala coast persists, as a result there is likely to be light to moderate rain or thundershowers at a few places in the districts of Gujarat while moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers would occur at a few places in the districts of Saurashtra and Kutch region and in Diu in the next few days,” stated a forecast issued by the IMD, Ahmedabad. According to the weatherman, in Saurashtra, Kodinar town of Junagadh received 15 inches of rainfall yesterday, followed by Mendarda with 11.02, Talala 7.48, Vanthali 6.69 and Una 6.29 inches.Similarly, in south Gujarat, Vansda in Navsari district received a maximum rainfall of 3.54 inches, followed by Moti Naroli in Surat 1.57, Olpad in Surat 1.57 and Kaprada in Valsad district with 1.18 inches.

“Monsoon arrived late by almost a week as it usually arrives by June 9. As per our short term prediction, rain may occur in south Gujarat region in next couple of days,” said MeT department director Jayanta Sarkar Sarkar. Sarkar also said that Monsoons are expected to cover the whole of Gujarat by the end of this week.
