The Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, General Raheel Sharif visited this Wednesday the new premier helicopter overhauling facility at the Aviation Base Workshop to witness the first batch of the overhauled helicopters.

Addressing on this occasion, the Chief of Army staff, congratulated the engineers and technicians of the Aviation Base Workshop for having developed the first ever inland helicopter overhauling capability. This was in collaboration with the Saint Petersburg Aviation Repair Company (SPARC). He highly appreciated the team for increased cost effectiveness and time reduction which has been achieved due to having their own overhauling facility. The Chief of Army Staff also emphasized on enhanced self-reliance and continuous skill development to meet the growing challenges of maintaining high operational readiness of Army Aviation.

This ceremony was attended by a large number of serving and retired military officers. The army has already launched an operation against the Taliban and other militants that have been hiding in the North Waziristan region for years. They have already deployed troops, tanks and weaponry to these areas and now the over hauling facility will be of additional aid to the army fighting in the tribal areas of Pakistan. Pakistan intelligence has confirmed that more than hundred militants have been killed in overnight strikes in the tribal region. The tribal region has been evacuated and many families living there are ready to migrate to Afghanistan or to other areas of Pakistan.
