This Thursday the former law minister of Punjab, Rana Sanaullah and the former principal secretary of the Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif, Tauqir Shah, appeared before the judicial tribunal to be made accountable for the death of about a dozen on the 17th of June in Model town Lahore.
The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri’s house was attacked by the police force of Lahore accompanied by the very loyal PML-N supporter Gullu Butt. They attacked the PAT supporters outside the Model Town residence of Dr Tahirul Qadri and his family, also aiming gunshots at the windows and doors of his house. After the Model Town clash, the chief minister had asked the law minister to resign from his post and fired his secretary. The tribunal hearing the accused today was headed by a single judge, Justice Ali Baqar Najfi who directed Sanaullah and Shah to submit their sides of the story on an affidavit in four days’ time that is by the 30th of June. The tribunal had also called the victims to be present at the hearing to explain their side of the story. The Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) was given the responsibility of making sure that the victims were present.
The Punjab home secretary and the commissioner of Lahore division have been summoned on the 30th of June. The Punjab secretary health has also been asked to appear before the tribunal along with medical officers of Jinnah Hospital, Services Hospital, General Hospital and Ganga Ram Hospital with postmortem records and medico legal reports of victims of the clashes.
