The Special Representative for Pakistan and Afghanistan in the United States, James Dobbins met the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Raheel Sharif and the Interior Minister of Pakistan, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan this Monday. The COAS met Dobbins at the General Headquarters whereas the Dobbins met the Interior Minister in Islamabad.

According to the ISPR, matters of mutual interest including regional security, Pak-US ties and latest situation of Afghanistan were discussed by the with the officials. Pakistan asked the representative to control and to restrict the movement of militants along the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Interior Minister further highlighted that the region can only remain peaceful if there was peace in Pakistan’s neighbor, Afghanistan. Dobbins appreciated Pakistans role to attain and maintain peace in the region. The US Special Representative, Dobbins had also contacted the Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz. During the meeting, both officials discussed developments within Afghanistan while Aziz reaffirmed that Pakistan wants a stable and unite Afghanistan.

Sartaj Aziz highlighted the instrumental role of Pakistan-US strategic dialogue in fostering closer collaboration between the two countries in diverse fields including trade, economy, energy, counter-terrorism, education and science and technology. He also highlighted Pakistan’s monumental effort to address the threat of terrorism and underscored that the military operation, Zarb-e-Azb, was addressing this menace without any discrimination according to Dunya News.
