This Sunday, the Workers’ party held its Conference of Organizers at its headquarters in which  12 members were elected to the Central Executive Council (CEC). Ms Sylvia Lim and Mr Low Thia Khiang were re-elected as Chairman and Secretary-General respectively, of the Workers’ Party.

The newly elected members include Mr L Somasundaram and Dr John Yam, who were fielded as candidates in the 2011 general election. Also newly elected were Dr Daniel Goh and Mr Dennis Tan, who were co-opted into the CEC last year without an election. Members of the Parliament for Aljunied GRC Mr Chen Show Mao, Mr Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap and Mr Pritam Singh, MP for Punggol East Ms Lee Li Lian, MP for Hougang Mr Png Eng Huat, and non-constituency MPs Mr Gerald Giam and Mr Yee Jenn Jong were also re-elected to the council.

Leaving the council are Ms Frieda Chan, Ms Glenda Han, Mr Koh Choong Yong, Ms Ng Swee Bee and Mr Toh Hong Boon. Mr Toh had also been co-opted into the council last year. In a Facebook post, Ms Han wrote that her decision not to run this year was not an easy one, but “after being in the council for eight years, I decided to step down this term to not only make way for new blood but to also focus more on my new family unit, especially my newborn son”. She married South African music director Matheu Kieswetter last year according to Channel News Asia.
