The Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari, this Wednesday informed the media that all reports claiming that his residence was bugged and high power listening devices were recovered from his place are all ‘totally baseless and false”.

The Indian Newspapers have been filled with reports that claimed that high-tech bugging devices were found at Gadkari’s residence in Delhi. Later it was reported that the devices were not installed in his Delhi house but were found at his residence in Mumbai. The former BJP president highlighted this point and informed the media that there no truth in the reports. “First they said Mumbai home, then Delhi home. Reports are totally false,” said the Union Minister. When asked about Subramanian Swamy’s allegation that the bugging was done last year around October, the former BJP president refused to make any comment and told reporters to seek the answer from Swamy instead. Swamy had claimed that the last government of Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was responsible for the bugging that took place last year. He said that bugging took place last year “when the UPA was in power, the NSA (America’s National Security Agency) has specifically targeted the BJP and Gadkari was a very important person. He had the confidence of the RSS”.

The Union Home Minister had also made a statement in the Rajya Sabha informing the ministers that there was no truth in the reports concerning bugging at Gadkari’s residence. “Even the minister, at whose residence it was said that high power listening devices were installed, has himself called the reports as completely baseless…and there have been no complaints by the minister or anyone else in this regard.” All Congress leaders including the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that the matter should be investigated.
