This Monday, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, this Monday paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 64th Punya Tithi (death anniversary) and referred to the leader’s tireless efforts to unite the people of India and form one strong nation.

“On his Punya Tithi I pay my respects to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The great leader of India was born on the 31st of October 1875 and served the nation by playing a vital role in the independence of the country. He is still remembered for his priceless services that laid the foundation for India as the country it is today.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is also known as the ‘Iron Man’ of India as he played an instrumental role in uniting the country under one title by merging the small princely states. The national hero died due to cardian arrest on the 15th of December in 1950.
