In the state of Colorado at the midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, 14 people were dead following a mass shooting said the US police. The gunfire and an explosive device were being set off at the show of the most recent Batman movie early on Friday.
Dan Oates, the Police chief said 50 others were injured when gunfire exploded at the suburban Aurora theatre in the city of Denver. He said a gunman emerged at the frontage of one of the Century 16 theatres. “Witnesses tell us he released some sort of canister. They heard a hissing sound and some gas emerged and the gunman opened fire,” he said. One person was arrested and there was no evidence of any other shooters. Police spokeswoman Cassidee Carlson said in a brief news release, “The scene is still very active and we have little information for release at this time.”
One witness named Hayden Miller told media that he heard several shots while he was inside Theatre 16. He said, “Like little explosions going on and shortly after that we heard people screaming.” He also said that in the beginning he thought it was part of a louder movie next door but later he realized “people hunched over leaving theatre.”
The spokeswoman Nicole Williams said two people in serious situation had been rushed to the nearby Swedish Medical Centre. She said, “We’re on standby to receive and police said they could have as many as 20 or more (patients).” She added, “Somebody opened fire with some sort of weapon during the Dark Knight movie”.
