A brother died saving his sister’s life on Swanston Street in Carlton when a wall collapsed on Thursday. 19-year-old Alexander and 18-year-old Bridget suffered critical injuries and were rushed to Royal Melbourne Hospital. Reportedly, the brother sacrificed his own life by falling on his sister to protect her.
According to an eye witness who took care of Bridget until the ambulance arrived, Alexander’s actions might have been the reason that the girl is still alive.
“I personally believe that the young man who fell on her and subsequently died is the reason why the young lady is still alive,” he said.
Another pedestrian Mr. Impressive said he helped Bridget to stay conscious until the paramedics arrived.
“We got more of the wall off them and we discovered there was a young man fallen against the young woman,” he said.
Alexander is a former Montmorency Secondary College school captain who always dreamt of becoming a Prime Minister some day. His sister Bridget has undergone surgery and remains in a critical condition. Police said the wall collapsed as winds of up to 115km/h swept through the city.
“Our advice from the fire brigade is that there were other people injured. Those people have left the scene through fear of remaining, being that they weren’t entirely sure what the incident was, whether it was a wall collapsing or something on a larger scale,” said Detective Senior Constable Brooke Manley.
