One of the most disastrous accidents in the history of Australia took place in Sydney’s north-west when four vehicles crashed into each other. The tragic incident has sent one person flying through a car and three people to hospital in a critical condition.

“All suffered serious injuries. This included two with head injuries,” a NSW Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

Reportedly, four cars collided on Church Street in Ryde, approximately 15-km north of the city centre. The accident which critically injured three people is believed to have taken place around 4.50 pm on Monday. The driver of one vehicle, a 35-year-old local man, was rushed to Westmead Hospital by CareFlight in an ambulance.

The two other victims have not been identified as yet. Suffering from life-threatening injuries, both are receiving medical treatment at Royal North Shore Hospital. According to the Ambulance Service of NSW, at least one man was thrown from the car in the accident. Police say the engine of one of the cars was also thrown 30-metres by the impact.

Although the scene of the accident has been cleared, the passing by vehicles stop for a while to take a look which is causing traffic jam. Traffic is diverted from the site of the accident, near Devlin Street, to Epping Road. The traffic is likely to be disrupted for a prolonged time since the Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the scene.
