A female sex trade worker is recovering from minor injuries and one man is facing criminal charges after she was shot at with a pellet gun just after 3:30 a.m. in the area of East Hastings Street and Salisbury Drive on October 9th.

The woman was standing on the street corner when a van pulled up and the passenger rolled down the window. Without warning, a man in the van allegedly shot her with a pellet gun, hitting her twice in the chest and once in the neck. The van then sped off, leaving the woman on the street. She was able to call 9-1-1 and police arrived within minutes. The woman was checked at the scene by the ambulance for her injuries, but did not require hospitalization.

Patrol officers searched the area and found a van matching the description parked on Commercial Drive. Three men from the van were taken into custody and a pellet gun was found inside the van.

Charged with one count of assault with a weapon is 24 year old Surrey resident Gerald Gbardy. The other two men were released with no charges. Gbardy is not previously known to police and his next scheduled court appearance is on October 19th.
