Deputy PM, Nick CleggDeputy Prime minister, Nick Clegg is to hold a weekly LBC radio phone-in in an effort to revive his personal approval ratings with the public.

The show titled as “Call Clegg”, will start to be broadcasted from Thursday at 6pm. It will be the first time such a senior U.K. government figure has agreed to a weekly grilling by listeners.

Mr. Clegg’s friends have already warned him that he is going to take a huge political risk, with several other senior politicians having failed to cope with the format during the past.

Despite the fears of it going wrong, he has decided to take the risk in order to boost his personal popularity among the public.

Last year, the Labour leader, Ed Miliband had to face criticism from his callers on the BBC’s 5Live station for lacking gravitas and failing to inspire them.

The Liberal Democrat leader will appear on Nick Ferrari’s show on London’s LBC 97.3 for 30 minutes and the programme can be heard online anywhere.

Mr. Clegg has told Mr. Ferrari: “You can’t do the right thing in government unless you keep in touch with how people are thinking and feeling.”

“I’m doing this because I don’t think politicians get to hear enough from people directly.”

Mr. Deputy PM has also told about the show’s presenter: “Nick Ferrari is known as the interviewer that all politicians fear. He can be very tough but he’s generally fair, very well-informed, and I hope we’ll make a good combination for the show we’re doing together.”

Director of broadcasting of Global Radio, Richard Park has said: “Once again, LBC 97.3 delivers a first, as we welcome the Deputy Prime Minister to London’s biggest conversation. No other station offers its listeners such unique access to a senior member of government. This will be must-listen radio.”
