Charlotte BevanThe bodies discovered at Avon Gorge on Wednesday have been identified as of mother Charlotte Bevan and her five-day-old baby Zaani Tiana Bevan Malbrouck.

Ms Bevan went missing from St Michael’s Hospital in Bristol on Tuesday with her four-day-old infant wrapped in a blanket after she walked out of the place coatless and wearing slippers only.

The 30-year-old mother’s body was found in the Avon Gorge near the Clifton Suspension Bridge on Wednesday evening.

Afterwards, the police continued searching the steep sides of the gorge below the Bristol suburb of Clifton for the baby.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Crisp has told that said the infant’s body was found nearby the place where officers located Ms Bevan.

He has said: “I regret to inform you that a short time ago on the cliff face close to Charlotte, the body of a small baby girl has been found.

“No formal identification has so far taken place, but we anticipate that it is going to be Charlotte’s daughter.

“We will be conducting an investigation on behalf of the coroner. At the moment we are not treating either death as suspicious.”

Avon and Somerset Police told to have informed Ms Bevan’s family regarding the tragedy.

Ms Bevan’s mother Rachel Fortune has stated: “My beautiful daughter and granddaughter are now at peace.

“The response and support from the public has been overwhelming and we would like to thank you all.”

The baby’s father Pascal Malbrouck told during a news conference on Wednesday that he was very concerned about Ms Bevan as she had mental health issues.

Sky’s Siobhan Robbins has indicated that one line of enquiry is focusing on the possibility that Ms Bevan may have stopped taking medication for the mental illness because she was breastfeeding.

Ms Bevan is believed to have been suffering from schizophrenia and depression and had been sleep deprived after giving birth.

Police have told that they are not treating the deaths as suspicious.
