A 15-year-old boy, Alan Cartwright, was stabbed to death while cycled along a north London street with friends last night. Cartwright was confronted by three men on Caledonian Road, Islington, which resulted in his death soon afterwards. Although he managed to continue cycling a short distance after he was stabbed, he collapsed shortly afterwards and died on the street. According to the police, the attackers stole two of the teenager’s friends’ bikes before fleeing.
Consequently, police has started a murder probe and are searching the area for evidence. Whereas a post-mortem report is due later. Cartwright’s friends and well-wishers took to Twitter to pay tribute to Alan, including one who tweeted: ‘so sad that another Islington kid taken so soon. Thinking of your family at this sad time.’ Another added: ‘Devastated isn’t the word! RIP Alan.’ Whereas a former EastEnders actor whose 16-year-old brother was knifed to death in north London in 2008, Brooke Kinsella, tweeted that ‘another young boy lost to knife crime, another family destroyed. Sickening, cowardly, senseless culture. Heart is weary £PutDownYourKnives.’ She has been a prominent and tireless anti-knife crime campaigner in the wake of her brother’s death.
A formal statement issued by the Metropolitan Police mentioned that ‘at this early stage it is believed the victim was cycling north on Caledonian Road with friends when they were attacked, near the junction of Copenhagen Street, by three males who were walking in the opposite direction.’
