A UK court judge, Peter Rook, has sentenced a British paedophile who preyed on Christian children in an impoverished part of Kuala Lumpur, 30-year-old Richard Huckle, to life in prison on Monday with a minimum term of 25 years. Judge Rook delivered 22 life sentences to be served concurrently after Huckle pleaded guilty to raping 22 children.
As the judge delivered the sentence, Huckle stood there with his hands together in prayer but a woman in the public gallery leapt to her feet and shouted “a thousand deaths is too good for you.” In his remarks, Rook stated that Huckle had almost certainly “blighted the lives of his victims forever”. During the course of the case so far, Huckle has already spent 488 days in jail and now he faces more than 23 years behind bars before a parole board can consider his release. Overall, Huckle has confessed to a total of 71 offences against children he groomed while posing as a volunteer working with Christian communities in the Malaysian capital. Judge Rook stated that “relentlessly you preyed on the very young,” adding that “you targeted and groomed impoverished children.”
Huckle was caught by an Australian investigation into the website True Love Zone (TLZ), where he used to post pictures of the abuse of boys and girls. Thereafter, he was arrested by British police upon his return at London Gatwick Airport in December 2014. He was returning from Malaysia to spend Christmas with his parents. At the time of arrest, Huckle was carrying a heavily-encrypted computer and camera that contained over 20,0000 images of child sex abuse, over 1,000 of which showed him committing offences including rape.
