Argentina-BrazilThe Defense Minister of Brazil, Celso Amorim officially made his first visit to Argentina and met with the Argentine Defense Minister, Arturo Puricelli. The meeting took place in Buenos Aires. Discussions took place on cooperation agreements coming within the “Mechanism of Strategic- Political Dialogue”. This framework was set up earlier this year in February.

Major agendas discussed during this meeting include the keeping the South Atlantic a peaceful and cooperation zone which is free from nuclear weapons, coordination between the common positions in the South American Defense Council of the UNASUR.

The Defense Minister of Argentina earlier suggested a South American Space Agency formulation under the umbrella of UNASUR.

Up till now, the relationship between the two countries is described as political. However analysts have said that the unity between the two countries highlights the nations as potential core allies of a security community in South America.

Both the defense ministers are expected to meet again in the month of November.
