Fifa-world-cup-2014-brazilBrazil who is set to host the 2014 FIFA World Cup has made a very slow start to their preparations for the Mega Global Event. The preparation has been hit by claims of overspending and corruption and is already at such an early stage being viewed as a run against time project.

Plans of starting a monorail train which will travel above the city of Manaus are being seriously challenged. Chief Prosecutor in Amazonas Athayde Ribeiro da Costa has labeled the monorail development as a way of justifying overspending and poor planning.

He told reporters “We are very worried about overspending, We are in favor of the Cup — it can bring lots of opportunities for people and help resolve infrastructure bottlenecks, but this can’t be done at the expense of misuse of public funds or corruption.”

There are mounting apprehensions that in order to make up for the slow start the authorities will overspend which will prove to be a breeding ground for corruption and misuse of finances for the tournament which will kick off in less than 1,000 days.

The 2010 edition of FIFA World Cup that was hosted by South Africa had an overall cost of $4 Billion, and the cost of 2014 world cup by now stands at $13 Billion which includes construction of new stadiums, renovation of old stadiums, monorail cost and expansion of airport. If thing continue to stand as they are this will be the most expensive tournament of all time.
