Youcef Nadarkhani, a death row Christian pastor accused of apostasy, has been released from jail, according to Iranian media reports.

Naderkhani had been sentenced to death for “apostasy” and “converting to Christianity” by Branch 11 of Gilan Province’s Appeals Court in August 2010. In June 28, 2011, Iran’s Supreme Court overturned the ruling, on condition that the pastor repent, something he refused to do.

Mohammad Ali Dadkhah, Nadarkhani’s lawyer, told radio Farda that his client has now been acquitted of apostasy and that his sentence has been commuted to three years in prison for “propaganda” against the state.

On Saturday, Naderkhani was released from a prison in Rasht after having endured three years of imprisonment.
