The Hamilton Police Service Fugitive Apprehension Unit arrested a man wanted for a 1999 sexual assault.

In 1999, Michael Matheson was the owner of a car lot in the City of Hamilton who offered the young teenage girls in the neighbourhood the opportunity to make money by washing his cars.

It is alleged that Matheson lured one of the young girls into his home where he sexually assaulted her. During the course of the investigation, Matheson fled the City and Hamilton Police believed that he was residing somewhere in Alberta. As a result, on April 30th, 1999 a warrant was issued for the arrest of Michael Matheson on charges of Sexual Assault, Sexual Exploitation, Sexual Interference and Threaten Bodily Harm.

On Tuesday, May 10th, 2011, the Hamilton Police Service FAU received information about the possible whereabouts of 56 yr. old Michael Matheson. Based on the information, FAU investigators went to a fabricating shop in Stoney Creek where Matheson was working. At 2:00 p.m., he was arrested on the 1999 warrant. He is expected to appear in court today.
