Motorcycle collision leaves Pickering man dead

A 23-year-old male was killed in a motorcycle collision on Thursday evening in Pickering.

On Thursday July 7th, 2011 at approximately 9:15 p.m., members of West Division were called to the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and Honda S.U.V on Whites Road just north of Oklahoma Drive in Pickering.

Witnesses report the motorcycle was travelling northbound on Whites Road at a high rate of speed previous to entering the intersection at Oklahoma. The driver lost control and struck a Grey Honda S.U.V. which was waiting to turn left off Whites Road into the Petrocan Gas Station.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 23-year-old Pickering man, was transported to Ajax Pickering Hospital with vital signs absent. The driver was pronounced shortly afterwards. The driver of the Honda was uninjured.

The deceased has been identified as Tony TOUGHLAJIAN, age 23, of Hampton Court in Pickering.

The road was closed for several hours while members of the Collision Investigation Unit investigated the collision. Weather, road conditions and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors, however investigators are looking at speed as a contributing factor.

The investigation is ongoing and we would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident.
