The Edmonton Medical Examiner has determined the man killed last night in north Edmonton died as a result of a gunshot wound.

The victim who was known to police has been identified as 26-year-old Michael Wayne Tunnicliffe (pronounced Toonknee Cliff).

The matter remains under investigation.

This is the city’s 30th homicide of 2011.

Backgrounder:

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2011 North Division members were called to the area of 157 Avenue and 45 Street to a report of a man down. The man was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
