Coquitlam RCMP has announced that it will be conducting a review of actions of several police officers in light of a recently emerged video recording that shows the arrest of an elderly couple. In the video, the officers can be seen dragging an elderly man down some stairs in order to execute his arrest while an elderly woman is manhandled as a girl cries.

In a statement issued by Supt. Sean Maloney, he revealed to be aware of the video and claimed a preliminary review of the video confirmed the involvement of Coquitlam RCMP members. The statement by Maloney mentioned that “I can confirm that on Oct. 27 at 10:32 p.m., police were called to the Best Western located on North Road in Coquitlam after it was reported that a strata annual general meeting had gotten out of hand and that some parties in attendance were potentially fighting.” Furthermore, Maloney mentioned that “it appears that upon police attendance, a decision was made that it would be in the best interest of all involved to conclude the meeting.”

Maloney continued that the attendees were informed of the police decision, but that the elderly couple allegedly refused to leave the scene. Therefore, “they were subsequently arrested and assessed by Emergency Health Services to ensure their well-being. Police are continuing their investigation and will be forwarding a report to Crown Counsel for their assessment of criminal charges.” In his concluding remarks, Maloney claimed that “I respect and understand that the video may cause concern to the public. As the officer in charge of Coquitlam RCMP detachment, I have initiated a review into the actions of the police officers involved. This review will also include looking further into the reasons behind our attendance.”
