Several people were taken to hospital – one with a broken jaw – after a large fight broke out at an Oshawa bar early this morning.

Officers from Central East Division were called to Le Roi bar at the Midtown Mall on John Street in Oshawa regarding a large crowd and multiple fights. Witnesses told police the disturbance started inside the bar, but then spilled out into the parking lot. When police arrived just before 2 a.m., there were over 300 people in the parking lot near the bar and many were intoxicated. Several fist fights amongst patrons broke out while police were on scene and additional units had to be called in to assist.

Witnesses report two males were engaged in a fist fight and one had his jaw broken. The other combatant then armed himself with a baseball bat and began threatening people with it in the crowd. A group of men from the crowd disarmed him and beat him into semi-consciousness. These men fled before police arrived. Both injured males were taken to hospital and neither wanted to cooperate with police.

While police were on scene talking to witnesses, a man reversed his vehicle in the parking lot and struck two intoxicated females. One was not injured but the other was taken to hospital with a non-life threatening head injury.

Eventually officers were able to de-escalate the situation and bar patrons eventually dispersed. No officers were injured.
